Sources: Broner’s comeback fight postponed

Adrien Broner’s comeback fight, scheduled for Feb. 25 in Atlanta against Michael Williams Jr., has been postponed, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Broner, who hasn’t competed since February 2021, is now slated to return in April in Atlanta, sources said.

Williams (20-1, 13 KOs) suffered a broken jaw in sparring this week, according to his father, Michael Williams Sr. The unheralded 23-year-old was the third opponent to withdraw from a Feb. 25 fight with Broner. The original opponent was Ivan Redkach, who was replaced by fellow former title challenger Hank Lundy.

Now, Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs) will seek a new opponent for his first fight in over two years. The former four-division champion scored a controversial decision win over Jovanie Santiago when he was last in the ring.

The 33-year-old from Cincinnati parted ways with Al Haymon’s PBC to compete under the BLK Prime banner. Broner’s win over Santiago ended a three-fight winless streak.

The event postponement means yet another date change for the co-main between Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey. BLK Prime was looking to stage its second notable boxing card after its December show headlined by Terence Crawford’s knockout of David Avanesyan.
