While competing in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open Tuesday, Victoria Azarenka and Yulia Putintseva had a longer break than they would’ve hoped for.
A Hawk-Eye power outage occurred while Putintseva was leading Azarenka 2-1, with the score at 30-0. Regaining power was critical to the continuation of the match since officials use the Hawk-Eye technology to determine the lines that dictate if the ball is in or out.
Miami Open officials concluded that the two would not be playing until they got the lights back on.
“At the moment, as you can see in the back, we’ve lost the power,” tennis official Marija Cicak said. “We’ve lost the lights and the sounds, so we can’t continue.
“We had it, but then it just went down. When we went to announce the score, I couldn’t see. I prefer to have the lights on so I can call it.”

The power eventually came back on about an hour later, and it was Azarenka who benefited from the extra rest with the 7-7 (7-4), 1-6, 6-3 win over Putintseva.
