Veteran Penny joins crowded Panthers backfield

Running back Rashaad Penny plans to sign with the Carolina Panthers, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday.

Penny, drafted in the first round of the 2018 draft by the Seattle Seahawks, will reunite with Panthers head coach Dave Canales, who was an assistant with Seattle from 2010-22.

Penny, 28, played last season for the Philadelphia Eagles, but appeared in just three games and rushed 11 times for 33 yards.

In six seasons, he has rushed for 1,951 yards and 13 touchdowns.
